MELNYK STAYING QUIET
Eugene Melnyk chose his words carefully. He isn’t going to open old wounds.
He has made it clear what he thinks of Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and the Ottawa Senators owner isn’t about to light that fire again. The club doesn’t need to be distracted by something that happened two months ago.
After using the word “whiner” to describe Crosby following his slash on Ottawa defenceman Marc Methot on March 23 in Ottawa that nearly took off the end of his finger, Melnyk was tight-lipped when asked about Crosby on Thursday.
“We are looking forward to playing against anybody and everybody and we’re ready for it,” Melnyk told Postmedia. “We will be competitive but we understood our roots and where we come from. Think of the predictions, nobody really gave us a shot.”
Melnyk has decided Crosby incident is in the rear-view mirror.
“He’s a competitor, and like anyone else, he will be treated accordingly,” Melnyk said.
